Beginners Group

The next 10 week Beginner's Course will start on Tuesday 10 January 2017 at 18:30 at the Rugby Club on New Inn Lane Trentham. These sessions are aimed at those who have either never run before or maybe have run in the past and are nervous about re-starting. All ages and abilities are welcome. They are not aimed at making you a runner, but more towards improving your fitness. They begin as a run/ jog exercise and can then progress depending on members aspirations and abilities.

The people running the courses are very friendly and encouraging and have attended the England Athletics training courses. Pete Hewitt has been a runner for many years and is very experienced at getting new runners started with his beginners group (myself included) and has a fantastic track record of integrating runners into club sessions. Jacquie MacPhail is one person who has lived that dream herself, joining Trentham as a non-runner and progressing through to running team races and cross country as well as completing many individual events with renewed confidence. She is very welcoming and will be sure to be able to guide you through your first sessions. Lionel Jones has gone full circle in his many years at Trentham Running Club. Lionel has completed many races and Triathlon events over the years and has led many group runs at Trentham. As Lionel has slowed his pace he has been responsible for the progression of many beginners runners giving them the confidence and encouragement to push on to a new level, Jacquie included. He now leads the beginners group with Pete and does a fantastic job.

The sessions themselves are 10 for a ten week course, with a view to carry on after this period if you so wish. If you would like to sign up or find out more information you can email the club HERE or call Pete on 07701 011522 or Jacquie on 07873 318367

After the Beginners Course, a great way to take the next step is to have a go at the Hanley Parkruns. These 5k timed runs are just you against the clock and are held at 09:00 every Saturday morning in Hanley Park. They are free and cater for all ages and abilities.
